about ToucanToucan is a non-profit co-operative working in the area of research and development, providing technical assistance, management and training and development for organisations within the UK, the European Union and in the developing world. The focus of activities is work with people experiencing social exclusion, and innovative actions and developments that offer opportunities for economic and social integration. Toucan was established in Manchester in 1994, by two people, Jean Hough and Dave Ellis, who had come from a background of work in the voluntary sector at a regional and national level, as well as work in higher education. We run a number of different projects centred around people affected by social exclusion including young people not in education, employment or training, disabled people, people with mental illness, homeless people, the elderly, people from ethnic minorities and unemployed people. Some of our projects are UK based, some are with partners from countries in the European Union (EU) and a number of our projects have been with organisations outside of the EU, in developing countries.
