Online Information on Employment and Training Opportunities for Disabled People

Accessibility

The emergence of the World Wide Web has made it possible for individuals with computer and telecommunications equipment to interact as never before. For disabled people the Web holds great promise of transforming past barriers to information access, but as with any new technology, new barriers can arise in place of the old. The following sections aim to raise the awareness of accessibility issues, use of the Internet and provide useful and practical ways of increasing access.

Sites where Internet access issues are raised and to projects and organisations working towards the principle of 'universal design and use'.

Internet Access

Sites explaining the principle and reasoning to why web pages should be accessible to all (universal design) and the latest guidelines on producing accessible Web page designs.

Accessible Webpage Design

Web accessibility checkers that either give access ratings for your own site or other pages. The results are immediate and give advice on how access can be improved, very useful to demonstrate quickly how inaccessible some sites are and how relatively quickly they could be made accessible.

Web Accessibility Checkers

Sites supporting greater access to computers and software and how computers can be used to increase access to information.

Computer Access

Answers to questions on using the Internet, how and why. Sites that attempt to address these questions as well focusing on disabled people.
