Online Information on Employment and Training Opportunities for Disabled PeopleDisability Organisations - EDGE |
||||
The Organisation (EDGE) exists to support the social, emotional and educational needs of minority Ethnic disabled people who originate from the continent. As an organisation we provide the following services:
Advice/information and counselling services to ethnic disabled people, their families, friends and careers and other organisations.
Organise training/courses for users and volunteers.
We provide a drop-in for Ethnic disabled people in the community. Organise outings, day-trips and visits.
Organise and deliver seminars on all issues to promote a black and minority ethnic/disabled people perspective.
The project has made a difference to Ethnic disabled people who require culturally sensitive services, which they do not receive in other groups.
Our volunteers are / non-disabled will be recruited on a regular basis where they are asked to help during the weekly drop-in programs. They do help and assist with refreshments, helping disabled members to and from chairs, toilets and other personal hygiene needs. The functions, meeting, and day outings volunteers also play a role in the physical management of the day. By adhering to our volunteer code of practice we will ensure that the interests of volunteers are safeguarded. Although the Volunteer Co-ordinate will have day to day responsibility for the management of volunteers, Members of the Management Committee will be responsible for overseeing a volunteer work programme.
Volunteers will be trained and where courses are necessary and can be identified, EDGE Will endeavour to provide resources for this end.
Edge operates an equal opportunity policy to encourage equality in all aspects of our project. Promotional leaflets are distributed regularly to local community centres, churches, mosques, temples, public libraries and local residents. We also take advantage to advertise via local periodicals and participate in relevant local radio programs. All black and minority ethnic disabled people are welcome to participate in our project irrespective of nationality, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, age and religion.
Edge is the only project of this kind in the North. No other organisation specifically provides for the needs of minority ethnic disabled people.
