Disabled people and their carers need access to information about specific services, rights, research, and support networks. They also have a right to receive general information presented in ways which acknowledge and accommodate their individual disability.
Oldham Disability Alliance is a voluntary sector organisation committed to identifying where these needs lie, and striving to meet those needs. Oldham Disability Alliance pursues this aim through advocacy, and awareness-raising, participation on planning forums to keep disability issues in the forefront of strategic planning, through design and production of original information media, and through partnership with other agencies that provide support for disabled people, or provide services that disabled people may want to access.

Many young people are caring for, or helping to care for a parent, brother, sister, or relative who is some way disabled. The Young Carers Project aims to recognise and support children with caring responsibilities (up to the age of 18), by offering individual counselling, advocacy, advice and information, group social activities, and workshops. The project aims to raise public awareness about the particular needs of children with responsibilities.

If you are looking after your husband, wife, child, parent, relative, partner, friend or neighbour who is disabled, ill, confused, or frail then you are a carer.
Oldham Carers Centre offers recognition of the value of the carers role ; one-to-one support ; opportunities for carers in the areas of training, education, and practical skills ; access to practical and financial help ; information advice and advocacy ; support for carers to address current issues and rights ; representation for carers at key decision making groups.
Oldham Carers Centre runs a weekly drop-in for carers every Thursday between 10.30am and 2.30pm.
