Italian Database for the Horizon Projects

This will be a multi-tier information network with multiple subsystems, with the web site being in two languages (Italian and English). The project will produce a CD-ROM, which at present will be in Italian (considering producing an English version). Within the Data Bank system information will be classified under the following headings:

• Local Authority
• Public Administration
• Instruments and Tools
• Services

The information will be managed by two systems:

• Local Authorities; Public Administration and Agencies
• Services; Instruments and Tools

The two systems will then be integrated into a single network, which will then operate on two levels:

• National level (central)
• Regional level (pool of information specific to each city ie, Rome, Turin)

The National system will manage and recover all the data collected by the nine regional projects. This information will then be at the disposal of partners such as Public Bodies, Health Trusts, Trade Unions and the like. At the end of the project the information will be collected and used to produce the CD-ROM previously mentioned. This process will also lead to the creation of a web site on the Internet which will hold an abstract and possible the most relevant information.

At the Regional system level, each region shall manage it own local data, this will be collated a regular intervals and passed on to the National system.

Information links within the Local Authority and Public Administration sections will cover the following areas:

• Hypervision
• Enterprises (the companies co-operating within the project, matching up the unemployed with job vacancies)
• Public Administration
• Non-profit Enterprises and Associations
• Scientific research (collation of clinical information on the clusters of RP, also the proceedings of a conference later this year to discuss RP)
• Health (various centres do not currently share information, hopefully this project will overcome this barrier and encourage the sharing of information)

Information links within the Services and Tools sections will cover the following areas:

• Access (information including accessible sites, local training centres)
• Psychological Rehabilitation
• Legislation (with particular reference to training and employment for people suffering from hypervision within Italy at a local and national level. Also other European countries legislation and how it is implemented)
• Enterprise creation
• Training and Education
• Remote or teleworking employment (including the networking out of information to wider audiences and markets)

With particular regard to the CONTATTO project it is recognised that the establishment of a disabled people's printing co-operative will not be an easy process or solution. The development so far has been focused in the area of personal growth, there still has to be development towards being an enterprise. To support this transition the project will use a multimedia training programme and work through the following stages:

• Creation of a core group
• Establish a support network of enterprises
• Development of practical steps ie, business plan

The database for Horizon Projects includes 9 Regional projects (including Sardinia) and 7 Associations. Each location will receive the basic computer package containing:

• Computer
• Scanner with OCR
• Printer
• Fax
• Power back-up system

It is expected that the system will be networked and running by September, at this time all the Associations should have their own web sites with information updated every month or at peak times. The network will be under continuos development throughout the life of the project.

The identification of the software should be completed by July with testing then following on with the Associations. The data bank project is feeding into a regional training project, the people undergoing the training will support the input of the data under the Horizon project.

By the summer of 1999 it is expected that 90% of the information will be available
