2. TAD Web Site

Recently the web site has been changed to include more clearly the three areas of interest - The Partners; Social Co-operatives; Telematics and Disabilities.
The central area, which currently contains a number of links, will be simplified, as will the navigation bar. Through the changes to the site many of these links have been made redundant.

There will be pages on partner languages, to enable access a link to an online translator, such as the one provided by Alta Vista.

There is an urgent need for the partners to send through links for the web site on:

The information required, is as before, URL address, logo, brief text sentence describing the web site (one or two lines). Information sent to Toucan in either Word Doc or HTML doc.

DEADLINE: All Friday 16th April '99

The idea of an email discussion list to be explored. This would allow partners, participants' etc., to exchange ideas, themes. There is one email address that messages can be sent that, in turn, 'bounces' the message to users who have subscribed (joined) to the list. This method of sharing information works but only if the participants are active in carrying out dialogue or responding the requests for information etc. A good example is the Web Accessibility Initiative discussion list or GLADNET.

4. Guide of Good Practice

In order to draw together the case studies from each partner for the Guide, there needs to be one single document that all partners can view and edit. The proposal for working is to use a virtual document via the TAD web site. This document will be password protected as to allow only the partners access. It will either allow direct editing or edit boxes, which will then be used to update the document.

A framework for the Guide will be posted onto the TAD site.

DEADLINE: Toucan 16th April '99

Partners can continue work on their case studies in preparation for the above framework being posted. By the next TAD meeting we should be in the position to discuss the Guide and draw out conclusions/recommendations from the work contained within the document.

5. Accessibility Issues

The UK project has been working around this issue in two areas:

  1. Web page design
  2. Accessible computing facilities

It is clear, that even at a European level, the issues involved are not being taken on board primarily through lack of awareness. There are two documents from the 'On-Line' projects, these are summaries on basic access issues. These will be posted to each partner and are available from the On-Line web site.

ACTION - Toucan

The issue of access also takes in different media that documents are in ie., is large text available?

The UK project is moving to mainstream the issue through its contacts with other projects and at a policy/recommendation level. We should move to replicate this at a transnational level since all the projects are working in the area of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). Each partner can take on board the issues for it's own organisation but there needs to be some level of mainstreaming the issue at a European level.

The partnership should formalise the issue and develop a timetable working towards the issue of access and ICTs. Potentially this could either form part of the Guide or as an additional document from the partnership.

Partners to examine the ways in which the issue can be mainstreamed within respective countries and at a European level. This area to be a theme for the July meeting.

DEADLINE - ALL JULY MEETING
