telecem partners at Manchester conferenceThe teleCem project is a partnership between four organisations in regions with different socio-economic situations - Zamora in Spain, Oporto in Portugal, and Bath and Manchester in UK.telecem centre in Spain The principal objective of the project was to create a network of tele-centres, one in each participating town, which would be established as permanent information points and offer various activities, such as training courses in office skills, web design, access to the Internet, and e-mail, to socially excluded groups, such as persons suffering from mental illnesses.

Eventually, once expertise has been acquired, these centres would offer possibilities for integration into the world of work.

telecem centre in ManchesterAlthough this project ended in December 2004, Toucan is continuing with it for the foreseeable future, as its worth to the community is vast. Some of our beneficiaries are almost up and running with their web sites which you can view at www.enterprise4u.org.uk

partners at the final conference in spainToucan Directors, Dave Ellis and Tom Knox, and Project Manager, Paul Mainwaring recently attended the final conference in Spain where it was agreed that a final report would be produced to share the findings and good practice learnt by each of the projects, and to enable others to benefit from this worthy project.

The teleCem project was part funded through INTERREG III B Atlantic Area, under Priority B, Measure B2 - Improving access to the information society.
