last updated: 19 Jan 05 lifelong learningECUBEECUBE stands for Engagement, Empowerment, Employment. ECUBE will offer a multi-dimensional and multi-agency approach to improving lifelong learning among diverse disadvantaged groups in Greater Manchester. These three key themes form the basis of three of the DP's four objectives.
ECUBE will develop its partnership, develop its links with key sub-regional, regional and national networks and aim to become a flexible and accessible test-bed for innovation in lifelong learning outside standard mainstream delivery. Target groups will include (but not be limited to): excluded young people; people with disabilities (often multiple); people with learning disabilities; people with mental health needs; prisoners; ex-offenders; homeless people; women returners; young Asian women. All of these target groups face multiple barriers to learning and employment. A key area for ECUBE is in finding new ways of delivering to hard to reach groups that suffer multiple disadvantages. There will be a range of activities that join up mainstream and grass roots agencies, and that involve the beneficiaries themselves in designing, managing and evaluating pilots. These objectives directly address the concerns of Equal Theme E in that they will 'test innovative approaches to attract non-traditional learners to improve their basic and new skills'. ECUBE will impact directly on its target group's access to and involvement in lifelong learning and employability. |
