In the UK, Lifelong Learning is seen as key to prosperity for individuals, businesses and the nation, which is hampered by poor skill levels at basic and intermediate level. Learning also promotes a fair and cohesive society, active citizenship and economic growth. It strengthens families, communities and the country. Lifelong Learning is also an essential part of promoting the Employability and Entrepreneurship pillars.

The projects ECUBE, Eden, Licence to Skill 2, CALL, e-ability and RAVT are under the lifelong learning strand. Eden is an EQUAL funded partnership of organisations delivering innovative project activities in Greater Manchester. Licence to Skill 2 and CALL both provide free or reduced rate ICT training courses to organisations and individuals in Manchester.
